Veteran England keeper-batter Jos Buttler has lauded the Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli for his exceptional records, especially in the 50-over format, stating that he is probably the most recognizable cricketer in the world.
Speaking exclusively to the ECB social media team, Buttler has termed Kohli an absolute superstar of the game, adding that Kohli has been incredible, especially in the 50-over format. Notably, Kohli has bid adieu to Tests and T20Is.
“He’s obviously an absolute superstar, probably the most recognisable cricketer in the world. I don’t think words do justice to his stature in the game. And obviously his record, especially in this format of the game, has been incredible,” Jos Buttler told ECB.
“It’s always great playing against the best players, and obviously he’s one of them. So it’s going to be a great challenge for us and we look forward to it,” he concluded.
In the first ODI between India and England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday, July 14, while Rohit Sharma managed to score 11 runs off 21 balls with a four, Kohli could score only five runs off six balls with a four.
Kohli got out LBW off Jofra Archer for only five runs in the 259-run chase. The No.3 batter was dismissed only once via LBW against pacers between 2013 and 2023. However, since January 2023, he has been out LBW four times off pacers.
Kohli returned to professional cricket in the first ODI against England for the first time since the IPL 2026 final. He was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury.
