Former Indian chairman of selectors and commentator, Kris Srikkanth, has slammed the Indian head coach, Gautam Gambhir, after India’s third consecutive white-ball series loss in the just-concluded UK tour.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former Indian batter has reckoned that the Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup victories will always be sneaked in whenever we talk about Gambhir’s coaching era. However, he added that Gambhir should also be accountable for all the results.
“In the middle of so many losses, India will sneak in a Champions Trophy and a T20 World Cup. Using that, Gambhir will get hailed. Yet, in reality, Gambhir is accountable for these results. The team management has to be accountable overall. But in India, that’ll never be there, so these will be brushed under the carpet,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
India will next take on Zimbabwe in the three-match T20I series, starting on Thursday, July 23 at the Harare Sports Club. On the other hand, the former cricketer has asserted that India will crush Zimbabwe, but this series shouldn’t even be considered.
“Now they’ll crush Zimbabwe and then after that beat teams like West Indies and Sri Lanka. Time will fly through these till the World Cup next year. And everyone will say India is back to form. But in reality, these series shouldn’t even be considered,” said Srikkanth.
“Yet, everyone will forget this England tour once the Zimbabwe series starts in two days. They’ll keep picking their favorites and leave out so many other worthy players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shami, Siraj, Krunal Pandya and Jadeja,” he concluded.
It’s important to note that the Indian team started the UK tour with a 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland. Later, they suffered a 0-4 T20I series defeat to England. Most recently, they suffered a 1-2 ODI series defeat to England.
