BCCI announces India’s Test squad for Sri Lanka tour; Saransh Jain gets maiden call-up

On Tuesday, July 28, the Indian Men’s Selection Committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has selected India’s squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Shubman Gill will lead the squad, with KL Rahul named his deputy.

While Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah’s availability will be subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI CoE, Washington Sundar was not available for selection for the first Test. Ahead of the series, the team will play a four-day practice match in Colombo, starting on August 7.

Notably, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be returning for the first time since January 2026, when he last featured in an ODI against New Zealand. For the unversed, Jadeja sustained a tennis elbow injury in May and has missed cricketing action since then.

Jadeja will be the most experienced spinner in the group, with support from Kuldeep Yadav. Manav Suthar, who made his debut in June, will be a part of the spin group alongside Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain, who received his maiden call-up.

If Bumrah is deemed fit by the BCCI CoE, he will lead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar. India are currently placed fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC 2025-27) standings, with a point percentage of 48.15, and Sri Lanka are sixth with 41.67.
