The Indian squad for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 is slowly starting to take shape, but there are still some spots open for grabs. India has a handful of ODIs to confirm the squad going into the tournament. Notably, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia will host the 2027 ODI World Cup in October-November next year.
Today, we will see a few names that are in the form of their lives but might not get into the final 15-person squad. These players served the Indian team for a long time and have excellent records as well, but the selectors and team management have likely moved on from them to younger players.

3. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja, the ace all-rounder, has been part of the two ICC Champions Trophy wins for the Indian team. He won the ICC trophies in 2013 and 2025 and also won the T20 World Cup in 2024, calling time on his T20 career. Jadeja has scored 2,905 runs with 13 fifties and taken 232 wickets with best bowling figures of 5/33 in 210 ODIs. However, Jadeja last played an ODI in January against New Zealand and has missed the Afghanistan and England ODIs. It seems like the selectors and management have moved on from Jadeja, with Axar Patel and Washington Sundar being the alternatives.
2. Mohammad Shami
Mohammad Shami last played for India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. He has taken 206 wickets in 108 ODIs with best bowling figures of 7/57, with six five-wicket hauls. Shami was the star bowler in India’s run to the final of the 2023 ICC World Cup, taking 24 wickets in 7 games. Shami has dealt with some injuries since the World Cup, but has done well in domestic cricket since then. However, the BCCI selectors have moved on from the 35-year-old pacer from Bengal. Gurnoor Brar, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, etc. have emerged as viable alternatives.
1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 36, last played for India in 2022 in white-ball cricket. Since then, the Indian team management and selectors have stayed away from including Bhuvneshwar, who, like Shami, has suffered frequent fitness issues during his career, which started in 2012. Kumar has recently shone in domestic cricket, including the Indian Premier League. He played a huge role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) two IPL wins in 2025 and 2026. However, age is not in his favour, given that many young pacers are staking a claim for an Indian team spot.
