Discarded Indian veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has revealed former Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan as the funniest member in the Indian dressing room during his playing days for the Men in Blue.
Speaking at a recent event, Shami disclosed that Dhawan always wants to do something different in the dressing room. He went on to add that the former opener used to stand on the table and start dancing to Punjab music.
“Shikhar is very funny. He does those things. Say we lost a match, everyone comes and is sitting in the change room. Shikhar wants to do something different. He will just laugh very loudly. If I ask why you are laughing, he says because we lost. He does such things. Anytime, he will stand on the table and start dancing to Punjabi music. These things create that atmosphere in the dressing room. We also enjoy it, because winning and losing keep happening. When you are playing the whole year, you will win and lose. All these things are there. But no one then goes into a very sad mood in the dressing room,” Mohammad Shami said at a recent event.
Furthermore, Shami also strolled down memory lane when he made his international debut way back in 2013 against Pakistan in an ODI fixture, stating that the former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh made him stand on a chair and give a speech. Moreover, he also recalled his maiden Test when Sachin Tendulkar had put his arm around his shoulder.
“The first time I joined the Indian team, I did not know how things were. There was a team meeting a day before the game. When I walked in from the door and looked in, there was not one name that would not have come in my dream. I just sat quietly. Yuvraj Singh asked me to stand on the chair. What can you tell him? So I did that. He told me to give a speech. I had forgotten what it was, seeing all the names. I could not tell much. I just told my name and where I was from. I could not do more than that, as I could not remember anything,” he said.
“The same thing happened to me during my first Test. I had prepared well, and everything was good. When we reached the ground, and I got the ball in hand, Sachin was standing there. He walked up to me, put his hand around my shoulder and asked what I was thinking. I told him I forgot what I had planned. He told me to do what I had been doing,” Mohammad Shami recalled.
