Sarfaraz Khan returns to India’s Test team as BCCI announces updated squad for Sri Lanka tour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the updated 15-man Test squad for the forthcoming two-match Test tour of Sri Lanka, which is scheduled to start on Saturday, August 15, in Galle.

The Mumbai-born middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan has come in as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan, who has been ruled out with a right toe stress reaction. Sudharsan has scored 383 runs from seven Tests at an average of 31.91, with three half-centuries.

“Sai Sudharsan has been ruled out of the Test series against Sri Lanka. The left-handed batter, who has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, has made significant progress in his recovery from the right toe stress reaction and is recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his progress,” the BCCI official statement read.

“The Men’s Selection Committee has named Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. He will link up with the Indian squad in Colombo before the team travels to Galle for the first Test match, starting August 15, 2026,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz has played six Tests, with this recent Test coming in the 2024 home series against New Zealand. The Mumbai-born batter had an impressive Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, accumulating 429 runs from nine innings at an average of 53.62.
