“We were not consistent in our batting and bowling the way England were” – Salman Agha on innings defeat to England

“We were not consistent in our batting and bowling the way England were” - Salman Agha on innings defeat to England

Pakistan stand-in captain Salman Ali Agha has opened up on his team’s innings defeat to England as they started the three-match Test series on a worrying note. Ollie Robinson was adjudged the POTM for his eight-wicket match haul.

Speaking in the post-match presentation ceremony, Salman Agha asserted that his players made so many mistakes throughout the match and they were pretty inconsistent in all three departments of the game, which resulted in England gaining momentum.

“England has outplayed us, it’s fair to say that. We have made so many mistakes and we were not consistent in our batting and bowling the way England were, and I think that was missing. It was inexperience when it came to batting, but it was, I think, when we went to bowl, there was enough lateral movement. So I don’t think so it was much different, but, we were not consistent enough,” Salman Agha said in the post-match presentation.

“We do have bowlers who can hit 140. You can say that, but these are three bowlers, they have done well in West Indies and they are the bowlers who are suited on these conditions. It’s just like they had an off days and they were not consistent enough, but I still believe in them. I think they are good enough bowlers who can bowl team out here,” he added.

“Well, we will sit down, we’ll go to London and sit down and hopefully Babar comes back and that will be a big boost for us,” he concluded.

Delving into the details of the game, Pakistan batted first and got bundled out for 171 runs in 48.1 overs. Abdullah Shafique was the top scorer, amassing 61 runs as Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue scalped five-wicket hauls.

In reply, England posted a whopping total of 409 runs in 89.5 overs, taking a huge lead. Harry Brook was the top scorer, racking up 91 runs. Ali Usman scalped a five-wicket haul. In the third innings, Pakistan got all out for 135 runs as England bagged an innings and 103-run win to take a 1-0 lead.
