On Monday, August 24, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) unveiled Afghanistan’s 15-member squad for the forthcoming three-match T20I series against India, which is scheduled to start on Sunday, September 13.
For the unversed, Afghanistan is all set to host India in a three-game T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from September 13 to 17. Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq returns after missing the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign due to a stress fracture on his right shoulder.
This series will be Ibrahim Zadran’s first assignment as the national T20I captain. Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Azmatullah Omarzai, Noor Ahmad and Mohammad Nabi are some of the top names part of the squad.
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board has always made every effort to select a well-balanced and fully prepared squad for all relevant competitions. We have followed the same approach for the upcoming series against India, and I hope the Afghanistan team will deliver an outstanding performance in these matches,” Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) CEO Naseeb Khan said.
“It is a great pride that Afghanistan is hosting a major cricketing nation for the first time. This reflects the progress Afghan cricket has made toward achieving its major objectives and shows that we are steadily advancing toward the strategic goals identified by the organisation,” he added.
This will be the first T20I series for Afghanistan since the disappointing 2026 T20 World Cup campaign. These two teams recently met in a three-match ODI series and a one-off Test in India.
