On Monday, August 31, discarded Indian batter Mayank Agarwal has signed a short-term deal with Durham for the final four County Championship fixtures of the ongoing season. Durham head coach Ryan Campbell was delighted to have the Indian batter in their set-up.
For the unversed, Agarwal’s last national appearance came more than four years ago. However, he continues to play for his state team, Karnataka, in first-class cricket. He was also part of RCB’s title-winning IPL final last year.
“We are delighted to have Mayank joining us for our County Championship run in,” Head Coach, Ryan Campbell said.
“With David Bedingham returning to South Africa ahead of their international red ball summer it was important we acted by recruiting a high-class international cricketer for the remainder of the season.”
“Mayank is a hugely talented batter who has a superb first-class record, we look forward to him contributing to Durham as we look to secure our return to Division One of the County Championship.”
Also, last year, Agarwal had signed up with Yorkshire for his maiden county stint, featuring in three games. While he suffered a couple of ducks in his first three innings, Agarwal smacked 175 against his current team, Durham.
On the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi is set to join Surrey for their County Championship matches. This County stint is expected to help him prepare for India’s two-Test tour of New Zealand later this year. Notably, Nabi was called up as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah for India’s two Tests against Sri Lanka.
