Former Indian opening batter and analyst Wasim Jaffer has opened up on the veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma retaining his spot in the Indian ODI squad for the forthcoming home series against the West Indies.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer reckoned that the Indian team management, headed by Gautam Gambhir, must have provided the veteran with proper clarity ahead of the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
“Knowing how the Indian team operates, they would have clarified this to him. But the media has the habit of talking about these things. Rohit Sharma is not the kind of player whom you’ll judge after two or three failures. He has done so much,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Further, Jaffer asserted that players like Rohit Sharma shouldn’t be judged based on a few knocks, requesting Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar to put an end to the debate on his place in the squad.
“If Rohit Sharma has made himself available, his eyes will be on the 2027 World Cup. He is not working so hard to play bilaterals. So, I think Ajit Agarkar or Gautam Gambhir should give that clarity. Rohit Sharma is beyond selection chatter. You cannot judge him on the basis of one or two innings. They should end this debate,” he added.
Rohit will be next seen playing the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which starts on Sunday, September 27 in Trivandrum.
