There will be three ODIs and three T20Is to be held between India and the West Indies in September and October 2026. The first ODI will take place in Trivandrum on 27 September, while the second and third ODIs will take place in Guwahati on 30 September and New Chandigarh on 3 October, respectively.
With many first-choice Indian players away for duty for the Asian Games 2026, the selectors have included several fringe players in the Indian squad, and we take a look at three players who might get a chance in the playing XI.
Here are the 3 Indian players who can get a chance in the XI in the absence of regulars:
3. Nitish Kumar Reddy
With Hardik Pandya not included in the Indian squad, as he is yet to prove his fitness, expect Nitish Kumar Reddy to impress the BCCI selectors in the ODI formats as well. Nitish Reddy has scored 100 runs and has taken 2 wickets in 6 ODIs he has played thus far. Nitish Reddy needs to show he can bowl 6-7 overs in an ODI and can make an impact with both the bat and the ball to make himself undroppable once Hardik Pandya returns.
2. Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj has not been in India’s ODI scene, especially when he was dropped for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. He has 76 wickets in 50 ODIs, with the best bowling of 6/21, which came in the final of the Asia Cup 2023. With Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh away for the Asian Games, Mohammed Siraj is expected to lead the Indian pace attack in West Indies ODIs and have a chance to become first-choice once again.
1. Ruturaj Gaikwad
Ruturaj Gaikwad is a victim of not getting enough chances in the Indian ODI team due to no open spot. He scored a century in the last ODI he played for India and has scored 228 runs in 9 ODIs. Gaikwad has been knocking on the door of the Indian ODI team, and the West Indies ODIs will be a very good chance for the Maharashtra player to cement his place in the format.
