Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli has strolled down memory lane to recall his 54-run knock in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in November 2023.
Speaking to JioStar, Kohli admitted that his dismissal in the World Cup 2023 final still haunts him, stating that he still gets dreams from that particular moment. After Kohli’s dismissal, India eventually got bundled out for 240 runs. In the chase, Australia sealed the deal with six wickets in hand to lift the silverware.
“Sometimes I get dreams about it. Like, what if I hadn’t missed that ball? I was 54 off 60 odd balls. I had set myself up, that if I can get a big hundred here, like if I got 140-150, we would be in a great position to win that game. Because we would be 300-plus in a big final, 300, 320, and with our bowling, we’ll get them. But as soon as I got out, played on, it was very tough to process for many days, and you keep thinking about it, what an opportunity,” Kohli told JioStar.
Further, Kohli, who bid adieu to T20Is and Test cricket, confirmed that his absolute goal right now is to win the World Cup for Team India, adding that the forthcoming mega event will be his last for India.
“For me, it’s the last World Cup I’m going to play for India. And that is my motivation. Like, you know, to leave everything out there. And of course, the goal is absolutely to win the World Cup. And whatever it takes, I’m absolutely ready,” Kohli added.
Kohli is the second-leading run-scorer in ODI World Cup history, scoring 1795 runs in 37 games at an average of 59.83 with five centuries and 12 half-centuries.
