Indian talismanic opening batter Rohit Sharma has revealed that his Indian teammates didn’t gift him anything at his wedding despite earning so much. Notably, Rohit married Ritika in a grand wedding ceremony in Mumbai in December 2015.
While speaking on his show ‘Family Full House with Rohit Sharma’, when asked about the most memorable wedding gift, the Indian opener revealed that his father-in-law gave the most expensive gift: his wife’s hand.
“Mere sasur ne di thi, meri biwi ka haath ( My father-in-law gave it to me — my wife’s hand) .”
“Mere saare dost itne kanjoos hain, aise hi aa gaye shaadi mein. Cricketers itna kamate hain lekin bahut kanjoos hain ( All my friends are so stingy, they just turned up to the wedding empty-handed. Cricketers earn so much, but they are very stingy),” he added.
When Rohit was queried to reveal the names of the most miser cricketers in the Indian dressing room, the explosive opener didn’t want himself to be in trouble.
“Oh brother, don’t make me say all this right now. You’ll get me into trouble, brother! I’ll tell you when we have time; meet me outside,” Sharma joked.
Further, Rohit assigned alternate professions to his former teammates.
“Bumrah, I think, would be a doctor. Because he comes in and saves the entire country, man. He comes in right at the end to bowl, he saves the team,” Sharma said. “Very few people do that, which is why even in cricket we call it the ‘death overs’. So death… only doctors save people from death,” he noted.
