The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI), on Friday, October 16, announced India’s ODI and Test squads for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. While the five-match ODI series commences on November 4, the two-match Test series begins on November 19.
Delving into the details of the ODI squad, it is divided into two groups. Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Anshul Kamboj, and Prasidh Krishna will feature in the first three ODIs, after which Tilak Varma, Auqib Nabi, Kumar Kushagra, and Yash Thakur will join the squad. While Gill will lead in the first three ODIs, Iyer will lead in the last two games, helping Test specialists to prepare for the two-match Test series.
Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah returned to the Test squad after missing the recent Sri Lankan tour. Besides Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Anshul Kamboj, Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy will be the other pace options in Tests. Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and left-arm unorthodox spinner Kuldeep Yadav are spin options.
