India captain Shreyas Iyer expressed disappointment with his side’s bowling performances in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against West Indies, particularly pointing to the defeats in the second and fourth matches.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Iyer felt that the series could have ended differently had his bowlers delivered better performances. He also praised the batting unit for its contributions throughout the series.
India’s bowlers struggled to restrict the West Indies batters throughout the T20I series. Arshdeep Singh finished with five wickets at an economy rate of 10.94, while Mayank Yadav and Axar Patel claimed four wickets each. Prince Yadav managed one wicket.
“[The result] could’ve been different if we’d bowled well in 2nd and 4th game. Batting has been sensational, execution we fell short. Credit where due, they batted phenomenally well. Kudos to Shai Hope, he was superb,” Iyer said at the post-match presentation.
Further, Iyer reflected on the positives from the five-match series, highlighting India’s ability to bounce back from defeats and regain winning momentum. Later, he also acknowledged the challenges awaiting the team on the New Zealand tour.
“I think the ability to bounce back, even after a loss. We had this mindset that we want to get and play aggressive cricket and see to it that we are at top of our game. And we replicated in some instances, but we weren’t able to repeat it and be consistent throughout. But it’s a great learning and a lot of positives as well,” he added.
“Even today, the way we, you know, went about our batting, it was outstanding, and I hope that we keep repeating well, and it is going to be a challenging series in New Zealand now,” he concluded.
