Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has expressed a major concern about Tilak Varma, who managed to score only six runs off 11 balls in the first T20I against New Zealand on Thursday, October 22.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan advised the batter to focus on his technique and make a few adjustments to improve his gameplay against spinners. However, Pathan clarified that he is convinced Tilak is a player and leader for the future.
“Tilak Varma will certainly need to pay attention to his setup going forward. I am very convinced that he is a player for the future. He is also a future leader of the team, and there is no doubt that he will lead teams in the league as well,” Pathan said.
“However, if he wants to get better at playing spin, I believe he will have to focus on his setup, both against fast bowling and spin. He definitely needs to work on that. I think he has enough ability that, if he pays attention to his setup and makes a few minor adjustments, his ability to play spin will improve even further,” he added.
Additionally, Pathan shared his views on the veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s comeback. Interestingly, the RCB seamer couldn’t make an impact, conceding 49 runs in his four-over spell without scalping a wicket.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not have a good day. It is certainly not easy, especially for a player who is making a comeback. It was a tough game for Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Just because he has been performing well does not mean you would expect him to deliver right from his very first game. It was a tough game for him,” he concluded.
