“There wasn’t any fight, and it is disgraceful” – David Warner slams Australian batters after Cape Town Test defeat

“There wasn’t any fight, and it is disgraceful” - David Warner slams Australian batters after Cape Town Test defeat

Former Australian cricketer and commentator David Warner expressed disappointment at Australia’s 176-run defeat to South Africa in the third and final Test in Cape Town as visitors suffered a 1-2 Test series defeat.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Warner slammed the Australian batting unit for getting all-out for 111 runs in the 288-run chase, calling it un-Australian and disgraceful. He went on to add that batters, barring Matthew Renshaw, have let the bowlers down in the last two games of the series.

“It is terrible. It is un-Australian as there wasn’t any fight, and it is disgraceful. Batters have let the bowlers down during the course of the series. Other than Renshaw showing fight in the first Test, batters have been utterly disgraceful,” Warner said.

On the other hand, Australian skipper Pat Cummins admitted that his bowlers gave their best to take ten wickets on the first day of the Test to give themselves a chance, adding that a couple of partnerships from South Africa made it tough for them.

“We did well to claim ten wickets on the first day and gave ourselves a chance. I feel a couple of partnerships they put on made it difficult for us to chase,” Cummins said.

“I think we’re a really good side. Tough opponents away from home. It’s always really difficult. We came here very hopeful and thought we were good enough to win, but we weren’t. We’ll have a couple of weeks to digest it,” he added.

The defeat also affected Australia’s position in the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) standings. They slipped from the top spot to third place after their points percentage (PCT) dropped from 75 to 69.23.

Meanwhile, Australia’s next WTC assignment will be a four-Test home series against New Zealand, followed by a tour of India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in early 2027.
