Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan showered praise on the Indian pacer Anshul Kamboj, who returned with figures of 2/22 in the first ODI against New Zealand to be adjudged the player of the match.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan reckoned that Kamboj consistently bowled in the right areas, generating more movement than other troubles to constantly trouble the opposition batters in his 10-over spell.
“The biggest positive for me from this match was Anshul Kamboj. His graph has been steadily improving, but throughout his spell, even when he was bowling towards the end, the ball was moving more than it was for the other bowlers. Kamboj’s lengths were relentless. He was consistently bowling in the right areas, generating movement and also making use of the scrambled seam,” Pathan said.
Further, Pathan stated that Kamboj has an exceptional ability to bowl yorkers, pointing out his ability to contribute with the bat lower down the order. He went on to state that the seamer is heading in the right direction.
“He is a skilful bowler who can bowl with the new ball as well. We have seen him do that for Chennai. He also has the ability to come around the wicket and regularly bowl wide yorkers. He can also contribute with the bat lower down the order. So, I genuinely think he is heading in the right direction. I am really impressed with the way he bowled,” he added.
Delving into the details of the first ODI, New Zealand posted 185 runs in 40.2 overs. Arshdeep Singh scalped a four-fer, while Gurnoor Brar picked up a three-fer. In the DLS revised chase, India sealed the deal in 22.4 overs with five wickets in hand. Virat Kohli was the wrecker-in-chief, scoring 74 off 51 with 13 fours and a six.
