After 10 games this year, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, the reigning Caribbean Premier League (CPL) champions, are leading the rankings with a commanding performance that saw them win three straight games.

It was a discouraging night for their opponents, the Saint Lucia Kings, when they lost for the first time in the 2024 competition at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground in Gros Islet. With 10 overs remaining, the Warriors crushed their opponents by six wickets, making a clear statement of intent.

After winning the toss, Imran Tahir decided to introduce the Kings. With Tahir scoring 3/29 and Player of the Match Gudakesh Motie scoring 3/13, the reigning champions produced yet another outstanding effort with the ball. The Kings were unable to rally from a PowerPlay that had reduced them to 43/4. The Warriors quickly dispatched off the target, while some poorer striking from Matthew Forde was able to bring the Kings down to three digits.

Guyana Amazon Warriors on a winning spree in CPL 2024:

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who scored 47 runs off just 19 balls—none of which were fours—saw seven of his sixes go over the ropes, lighting up the Saint Lucian sky.

Gurbaz eventually perished, needing just nine more runs to win, when Noor Ahmad pinned his leg before the wicket while he was trying to reverse-sweep for a quick fifty. Tim Robinson was dismissed by Noor as well, but not before the Warrior's rookie opener opened the chase with 33 from 20 deliveries, including a beautifully timed lofted six over the fence.

An enraged Alzarri Joseph was ecstatic to have taken Azam Khan out at short third. Shimron Hetmyer was met by Joseph with a glare and another short delivery, but Hetmyer had the last say after launching the next ball high and deep over mid-on for six. He then scampered the winning runs off the next over.

Barbados Royals are the only other team left undefeated in this year's championship, thus for the Warriors, it was a day to remember but one to cherish.
