3 Indian players who can bat at No.4 in Tests

The selectors have to identify a fresh, long-term replacement for the No. 4 spot because of Virat Kohli's retirement from Test cricket. After succeeding Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in 2013, Kohli held the role for more than ten years.

Given that India will play England in a five-match series in June, it was an intriguing moment for Kohli to announce his retirement. The selectors now have the difficult task of choosing the team without the experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as a result of this decision.

In this sense, India does have a lot of depth. The fans and management must, however, make sure that the new No. 4 is given enough time to get used to the position. These three hitters are potential candidates for this position.

1. Sai Sudharsan

Both fans and pundits are in awe of Sudharsan's steadiness in the current IPL 2025. According to media reports, the young player was in the running for a position in the England series squad and is regarded as one of the most promising talents in Indian cricket. The selectors might try to employ him as the No. 4 to bolster the batting, even though he has recently performed largely as an opener.

2. KL Rahul

Depending on the demands of the squad, KL Rahul, India's go-to crisis man in recent years, has alternated between the top and middle order. Rahul, who is renowned for his compact style, may now be a logical pick for the number four place after the team's greatest batter left. Although his role on the team has been erratic, he may stay in this role for some time. He is also the most experienced batter probably available for this slot.

3. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant has a lot of experience replacing Virat Kohli. Pant is India's most crucial middle-order batsman, both at home and away. He plays powerful knocks, as demonstrated previously, and India would like to have a left-handed cricketer from Delhi at No. 4. He has had immense success and has played the most number of match-winning knocks in the current team. Probably sending him up the order can help the team succeed in this format.
