Former Indian opening batter and commentator Aakash Chopra has lashed out at the Indian batters for their approach against spinners in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. Interestingly, India lost a total of eight wickets to spinners in the ongoing campaign.
Speaking exclusively on his YouTube channel, Chopra revealed India’s major concerning factor ahead of the marquee clash against Pakistan in Colombo. Interestingly, the Colombo surface is expected to assist spinners quite comfortably.
"Introspection is necessary because Gerhard Erasmus, Namibia's captain, came and made us lick dust. We are unable to play spinners at all. What is happening? If we combine the two matches, I think we have lost eight wickets against spinners," Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
"We are unable to run at six runs per over against them. Gerhard Erasmus came and bowled with a round-arm action and took four wickets for just 20 runs in four overs on a pitch where there was no help for spinners and in a game where you had already gotten a good start. It is a problem," he added.
It’s important to note that the Namibia captain and spinner Gerhard Erasmus scalped four wickets as India posted 209/9 in 20 overs. Erasmus bagged Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, which was the major talking point of the game.
"The ball turns in Premadasa. The ball comes slow there. Sixes aren't hit there. You have to score runs by running between the wickets. It doesn't seem like we are going there after getting prepared. We want to hit only sixes. Either we don't know how to play in some other way or we are unable to play that way," he stated.
"We scored only 10 runs in the last two overs and lost five wickets. It should have been 240, and we couldn't score 210, and that is a problem. We have won with such a big margin, and you might ask why I am nitpicking, but why shouldn't I do that?" he concluded.
