Top-order batter from Bengal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, has broken the silence on not being included for the ongoing West Indies Test series after being part of the Indian Test squad since 2022. Interestingly, he is yet to get his India Test cap despite being part of the squad for three years.
To make things more interesting, a total of 15 Indian players have made their Test debut since Easwaran received his maiden Test call-up in 2022. Speaking to RevSportz, Easwaran stated that it hurts on his non-selection, but he has found motivation, staying grounded.
“Yes, it does hurt sometimes. You put in all the effort, train hard, and the dream is to be in the middle - to perform, to contribute to wins. But I’m fortunate to have a solid support system: my family, friends, and coach. They help me stay grounded and motivated. Right now, I’m in a good headspace and looking forward to the Ranji season,” Easwaran told Revsportz.
For the unversed, Easwaran has played 105 first-class matches, accumulating 7954 runs at an average of 48.50, with 27 centuries and 32 fifties, with the best score of 233. The Bengal opening batter has stated that he has taken inspiration from late debutants like Michael Hussey and Suryakumar Yadav.
“Absolutely. I’m a big fan of Michael Hussey. Even before his Australia debut, he was consistently scoring in domestic cricket. His journey shows what perseverance can achieve. Even Surya [Suryakumar Yadav] making his India debut after 30 and now leading the team — it’s incredible. Players like them are great examples. So yes, it’s always at the back of my mind, “Why not me?” he concluded.
