“I want him to help India win the match against Pakistan” - Abhishek Sharma’s father opens up ahead IND vs PAK clash

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma’s father Rajkumar Sharma has stated that he would love to see India winning the much-awaited clash against Pakistan and eventually the Asia Cup title in the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking exclusively on India Today, the senior Sharma has asserted that he would want his son to help the Indian team win the Pakistan clash and the Asia Cup title contest. Notably, Abhishek played a 30-run knock off 16 balls with two fours and three sixes against UAE in the team’s first Asia Cup 2025 game.

"India performed well in the first match of the Asia Cup. I want them to win the trophy. India is in good form, I think that they will win the Asia Cup," Rajkumar Sharma told India Today in an interview.

"India and Pakistan is one of the most anticipated matches in the world. I am glad that the BCCI gave Abhishek chances. I want him to perform his best. I want him to help India win the match against Pakistan and then win the Asia Cup," he added.

Speaking about his numbers, the young Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has played 18 T20Is so far, accumulating 565 runs at a strike rate of 193.49. Notably, India is scheduled to take on their arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, September 14 in Dubai.

It’s worth noting that a total of eight teams are divided in two groups in the group stage before Super Four and the Final are played. Group A has teams namely India, Oman, Pakistan, and hosts United Arab Emirates, while Group B has Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka.
