In a multi-format white-ball bilateral series, Afghanistan will host Sri Lanka for the first time in March. The matches will take place in the United Arab Emirates from March 13 to 25. Three Twenty20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals will be part of the tour.

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host the T20I matches to start the series, with the first one set for March 13. The same location will host the second and third Twenty20 Internationals on March 15 and 17, respectively. Then, on March 20, 22, and 25, the ODI matches will take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will play their first bilateral Twenty20 International series in February 2024; this will only be their second. After matches in 2022, 2023, and 2024, this will be their fourth bilateral series in ODIs. The two sides' rivalry has steadily increased over the last few years, and their confrontations have become more intriguing as a result of their fierce battles.

The CEO of ACB, Naseeb Khan, said, “We are delighted to host Sri Lanka for the first time in our history. This event reflects the strength of our collaboration with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, and we are committed to further strengthening our relationship to provide a high-quality cricket experience in the future. Sri Lanka has been playing excellent cricket recently, and we look forward to what promises to be a competitive white-ball series between two quality sides.”

Dasun Shanaka, Rashid Khan, Kusal Perera, and Noor Ahmad are among the well-known players from both countries who are members of different franchise squads in the IPL and PSL, underscoring the importance of workload management before the hectic franchise season.

Afghanistan lost two important matches in the just-finished T20 World Cup group stage, which led to their elimination. They easily defeated the United Arab Emirates and Canada. They scored 200 runs and won by a commanding 82 runs against Canada. They also defeated the UAE by five wickets after chasing down 161. Their dreams of making it to the Super Eight stage were crushed, though, with losses to South Africa and New Zealand.

In contrast, Sri Lanka won against Australia, Oman, and Ireland in the group stage and lost just once against Zimbabwe. They recently lost to England in the Super Eight, and their next games are against Pakistan and New Zealand.
