Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai emerges as ICC No.1 ODI all-rounder

Afghanistan's latest all-round sensation, Azmatullah Omarzai, has moved two spots up to achieve a historic milestone to emerge as the No.1 ranked ICC Men’s ODI all-rounder in the newly released rankings by the apex body.

Notably, the 24-year-old all-rounder recently scalped a five-wicket haul against England in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to steer his side to a thrilling win. Moreover, he amassed a valuable fifty against Australia in the same campaign.

With these contributions, he moved up to the No.1 spot with 296 rating points, moving past his colleague Mohammad Nabi, who has 292 points at the second spot. 

ICC ODI batting rankings

Furthermore, Omarzai has made decent progress in the ICC ODI batting rankings, moving 12 spots up to the 24th rank after scoring 126 runs in the showpiece event. His colleague, Ibrahim Zadran, moved 13 spots up to the 10th rank. His 177 runs against England in the eight-team affair were crucial in achieving this.

Indian opening batter Shubman Gill continues to hold the No.1 rank, while Virat Kohli moved up to the fourth rank after his match-winning knock against Australia in the semi-final.

ICC ODI bowling rankings

In the newly released ICC ODI bowling rankings, Kiwi pacer Matt Henry moved three spots up to the third rank while Maheesh Theekshana and Keshav Maharaj are on top of the ladder with Mohammed Shami moving three spots up to the 11th rank.
