After their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign concluded, the Zimbabwe cricket team's preparations to return to Harare were abruptly shelved. Due to the total closure of Middle Eastern airspace due to the growing crisis between Israel, the United States, and Iran, the team has been told to stay in the Indian capital even though they completed their Super 8 responsibilities at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday.

After their final encounter against South Africa on Sunday, Zimbabwe will now spend the foreseeable future in India, becoming the first team at the T20 World Cup 2026 to be affected by the restriction of Middle Eastern airspace. In order to guarantee that the team and other outgoing squads can safely return home after finishing their campaigns in India and Sri Lanka, tournament administrators are currently looking into other travel arrangements.

Israel-Iran War affects T20 World Cup 2026 team:

Sikandar Raza's team was initially expected to board an Emirates flight from New Delhi to Dubai around 4:30 AM on Monday. However, air travel via the Gulf transit hubs, such as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain, has been completely suspended as a result of the start of military attacks on Sunday morning and the Iranian response.

Finding alternate routes for the Zimbabwean delegation is now the responsibility of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The bulk of the team is still in limbo at their team hotel in Delhi, although experienced spinner Graeme Cremer lives in Dubai. According to sources, the ICC is presently looking into ways to avoid the disputed Middle Eastern channels by using Ethiopian Airlines to fly through Addis Ababa.

Pakistan, on the other hand, has successfully returned to Lahore from Colombo aboard a SriLankan Airlines flight after losing their final Super Eight match on Saturday. The ICC said in an official statement that it is keeping a close eye on the evolving situation and has activated extensive backup measures to guarantee the travel, logistical, and general welfare of all participants in the T20 World Cup.
