Australian Women’s team captain Alyssa Healy has hinted at the end of her ODI World Cup career after losing to India Women in the second semi-final in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30.
Speaking in the post-match presentation ceremony, Healy has made it clear that he will not be a part of the next World Cup cycle. She also asserted that the ODI team will undergo a major transition.
"I won't be there. That's the beauty of the next cycle, we're going to see it unfold. There's a T20 World Cup in the middle of next year, which is really exciting for our group. But I think our one-day cricket will probably shift a little bit again,” Healy said after the game.
In 123 matches, Healy has amassed 3,563 runs at an average of 35.98, including seven centuries and 18 fifties. Moreover, her World Cup 2025 campaign concluded with 299 runs in five matches at an average of 74.75.
"When you've seen players my age walk away, it's kind of a weird experience to watch the next generation go about it," she said. "Phoebe was sensational today, set us up beautifully and went on to make a hundred. It's been fun to watch her unfold. The next four years leading into the next World Cup are going to be really exciting,” she added.
"We'll learn from what we did wrong tonight. We'll grow, we'll get better," she said. "The opportunity for some young players to step up in this side is a really exciting thing for Australian cricket,” she concluded.
For the unversed, Jemimah Rodrigues, the Indian No.3 batter, smacked an unbeaten 127-run unbeaten knock to propel India to a stunning five-wicket win over Australian Women in the second semi-final.
