Former CSK player Ambati Rayudu has revealed a rare incident when MS Dhoni lost his cool on him. Dhoni, often called ‘Captain Cool’ for his calm and composed nature, has rarely shown anger on the field. But speaking on JioHotstar’s show ‘Cheeky Singles’, Rayudu recalled one such moment during IPL 2019 when Dhoni was frustrated with his temper.
Rayudu said: “Sometimes, Mahi bhai would tell me — just like a tin roof heats up quickly, I also tend to lose my cool quickly.”
Rayudu was an important part of CSK from 2018 to 2023. In that time, he played 90 IPL matches, scoring 1932 runs at a strike rate of 129.31. His tally included eight fifties and one century. He won six IPL titles overall, three of them with CSK in 2018, 2021, and 2023.
CSK had a terrible season in 2025, finishing last with only eight points from 14 matches. Fans are now hoping for a strong comeback in 2026. They won only four games and all CSK fans were left shocked and frustrated.
Will Dhoni play? Will Ashwin continue? - plenty of questions for CSK ahead of IPL 2026
One of the biggest talking points is whether MS Dhoni will continue to play. Since 2023, there have been constant rumours about his retirement. Still, he has managed to play every season. In 2025, he even captained the side after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out with a hairline fracture in his elbow.
In May, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan made it clear that Dhoni’s retirement decision will be entirely his own. He even confirmed that whatever will be his final decision, the franchise will not interrupt and will be respected.
It’s not just Dhoni’s future in question. There have also been rumours about veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s availability for the 2026 season. Speaking recently on his YouTube channel during a chat with Sanju Samson, Ashwin said: “Every player seeks clarity. As things stand, it's not in my hands. I've just asked for clarity. The situation we're in, all the news floating around, none of it is coming from the players.”
