On Friday, November 27, Australia have named an unchanged squad for the second Ashes Test against England, which is scheduled to start on Thursday, December 4 at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Unfortunately, Pat Cummins has been left out of the squad due to his back injury, as he hasn’t been cleared for a return. Notably, Australia will enter this Test on the back of an eight-wicket win in the first Test in Perth.

Moreover, it’s important to note that Cummins will travel to Brisbane to continue his preparations, but selectors have decided against rushing him back for the pink ball contest. On the other hand, another star pacer, Josh Hazlewood, is also ruled out of the contest and misses out on the squad again as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Brendan Doggett is likely to be a part of the playing XI after he impressed on his Test debut in Perth, with left-armer Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland and Michael Neser part of the pace battery in the squad for the second Test.

Veteran opening batter Usman Khawaja has retained his place in the squad despite a poor outing in the series opener in Perth. However, he will need to prove his fitness after he suffered from back spasms during the Perth Test. Interestingly, all-rounder Beau Webster and keeper-batter Josh Inglis are the back-up options in the squad if Khawaja fails the fitness test.

Australia squad for second Test vs England: Steve Smith (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster

Ashes 2025-26 series schedule:

First Test: Australia won by eight wickets

Second Test: Gabba, December 4-8

Third Test: Adelaide Oval, December 17-21

Fourth Test: MCG, December 26-30

Fifth Test: SCG, January 4-8
