Asia Cup 2025

The Asia Cup has been quite an old tournament and has been organised for quite some time. However, most of its editions have been in the One-Day International format. In 2016, this tournament was organised in the T20 format for the first time, in an attempt as a preparation for the T20 World Cup that year.

Similarly, it was again done so in 2022 as well. With just two editions in the T20 format, some of the names in the runs leaderboard won’t surprise you, while some definitely can. Here is a list of the top five run scorers in the competition’s history in the T20I format.

1. Virat Kohli (India) — 429 runs

Kohli sits clear at the top, thanks largely to consistency and one huge innings, an unbeaten 122 in Dubai in 2022. Across his Asia Cup T20 appearances, he’s batted like a classical accumulator who can explode when needed, which shows up in his impressive average.

That mix of control and power is why he’s the tournament’s leading run-getter. Boasting an unimaginable average of 85, he has four innings where he scored 50+ in an innings and chased down several targets on his own. Virat Kohli was a given name in this list.

2. Mohammad Rizwan (Pakistan) — 281 runs

Rizwan’s haul comes from one very strong edition (2022), where his calm, deep-innings style carried Pakistan through run chases and middle-overs consolidation. The numbers reflect a high strike-control balance. He doesn’t blast constantly, but he keeps the scoreboard moving and finishes innings reliably.

He has been scoring at a paltry strike rate when in the context of T20 cricket, but an average of 56 and three half-centuries in six games shows the consistency he has shown in the tournament. He remains the only Pakistani batter in the list.

3. Rohit Sharma (India) — 271 runs

Rohit’s runs in Asia Cup T20Is are a reminder that an opener who times the power surge well can dominate the tournament. His highest score (an 83) and the ability to occupy the crease while scoring at tempo have made him one of the tournament’s most valuable batsmen. With 271 runs across nine games of two editions of the Asia Cup, he occupies the third spot and continues to be one of the most dangerous batters in the list.

4. Babar Hayat (Hong Kong) — 235 runs

A surprising name in the list has been that of this batter from Hong Kong, Babar Hayat. This is an interesting inclusion and remains one of the only batters from an associate nation in the list. Babar Hayat made a massive impact in the 2016 T20 Asia Cup, including a 122 that remains one of the competition’s biggest individual scores.

In just five matches, he has aggregated a total of 235 runs with an average of 47. Fewer matches but big contributions put him inside the top five run scorers and is a reminder that a single big score in a short tournament can climb the charts.

5. Ibrahim Zadran (Afghanistan) — 196 runs

A consistent performer for Afghanistan across the editions they’ve featured in, Zadran’s numbers underline maturity at the crease and a knack for building innings under pressure. He has made a total of 196 runs in five matches, where he holds an average of 65 and a strike rate of 104. He was one of the most impressive batters in the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup in this T20 format. His average and conversion into meaningful scores are the reasons he’s inside this top five.
