Australia announces ODI & T20I squads for India series; Glenn Maxwell & Pat Cummins not included

On Tuesday, October 7, the Cricket Australia National Selection Panel (NSP), led by George Bailey, announced the men’s ODI and T20I squads for the forthcoming series against India, which is scheduled to start on October 19.

It’s important to note that Bailey announced the squads for the three-match ODI series and the first two T20Is. However, the squad for the remaining three T20Is will be picked after a few days as the series progresses. 

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and the first two games of the T20 series, as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Chair of Selectors, George Bailey said.

“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year; however, we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead,” he added.

Mitchell Starc, Matthew Short, and Mitch Owen have returned to the ODI squad, while the major talking point is Matthew Renshaw’s return to the ODI squad for the first time since 2022, courtesy of his decent performances in the domestic circuit. 

Also, Alex Carey will miss the first ODI while Josh Inglis returns to the T20I squad after a minor calf injury, alongside Nathan Ellis. While Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out due to a fracture in his wrist, the all-rounder Cameron Green will prepare for the Test summer after the conclusion of the three-match ODI series.
