On Tuesday, October 14, Australian keeper-batter Josh Inglis and in-form spinner Adam Zampa have been ruled out of the first ODI against India, which is starting on Sunday, October 19, in Perth.
Delving into the details, Inglis is recovering from his calf strain, and Zampa will miss the first ODI due to family reasons. Another keeper-batter, Alex Carey, has already been released from the first ODI to play the Sheffield Shield.
Notably, Inglis will make his comeback to the ODI squad for the third ODI in Sydney on October 25. On the other hand, Zampa and Carey will rejoin the ODI squad ahead of the second ODI on October 23 at the Adelaide Oval.
With both Inglis and Carey unavailable, another keeper-batter, Josh Philippe, has been picked up as a replacement by the selection committee to keep the wickets in the first ODI. Meanwhile, Matthew Kuhnemann will make his comeback to the ODI squad as Zampa’s replacement.
This will be Shubman Gill’s first series as an ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. It’s important to note that Gill is currently part of the leadership group across all three formats, having been picked as the vice-captain in the T20I set-up.
