Monjurul Islam, a former cricket player, is prohibited by the Bangladesh Cricket Board from participating in any direct or indirect cricket-related activity. The decision comes after former Bangladesh women's captain Jahanara Alam made grave accusations of misbehaviour.

Former captain Jahanara Alam accused Islam of sexual assault and misdemeanour after he was appointed chief selector for the Bangladesh women's team in 2020. In interviews conducted last year, Alam disclosed that Islam, who served as the national team's manager as well, had made several offensive remarks while she was employed, particularly during the 2022 Women's World Cup in New Zealand.

Bangladesh Cricket Board bans Monjurul Islam:

Four particular complaints were examined in the investigation. The committee found prima facie evidence to support the remaining two, although two could not be substantiated owing to insufficient evidence. It came to the conclusion that Monjurul's behaviour was against professional norms and that, in accordance with the relevant Supreme Court guidelines, some of his activities qualified as misconduct and harassment. The board determined that more action was required, even though his contractual term with the BCB had already concluded on June 30, 2025

Islam would be prohibited and blacklisted from any future involvement in Bangladeshi cricket or any activities that are under the cricket board's purview, the BCB said in a statement today after a board meeting in Dhaka.

A BCB statement read, "Based on the findings of the Independent Inquiry Committee formed by the BCB to examine the complaint lodged by former Bangladesh Women's National Team Captain Jahanara Alam, the Board has decided to impose a ban on former national cricketer Monjurul Islam from all forms of direct or indirect employment and/or cricket-related activities under the jurisdiction of the Bangladesh Cricket Board."

The BCB also accepted the schedule for the first Women's Bangladesh Premier League, which would take place in Dhaka and Chattogram from April 4–14, 2026, amid the controversy. As it looks for a replacement, the board also gave national selection panel chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain an additional month to serve.
