Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Sunday, January 4, unveiled the 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, which is scheduled to start on Saturday, February 7, in India and Sri Lanka.
While Liton Das has been named as the captain of the 15-member squad, Saif Hassan has been named as his deputy. Pacer Taskin Ahmed has returned to the squad, having missed the recent home series against Ireland, which the hosts won by 2-1.
Jaker Ali, Mahidul Islam Ankon, and in-form batter Najmul Hossain Shanton failed to make the cut to the final squad. Bangladesh will start their campaign against two-time champions West Indies on February 7 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, having been placed in Group C with the West Indies, England, Nepal, and Italy.
Ahead of the showpiece event, the BCB has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift all of its T20 World Cup matches away from India, saying they are concerned for the safety of their players amid tensions.
“Following a thorough assessment of the prevailing situation and the growing concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent in India and considering the advice from the Bangladesh government, the Board of Directors resolved that the Bangladesh national team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions,” Bangladesh’s cricket board (BCB) said.
“In light of this decision, the BCB has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC), as the event authority, to consider relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches to a venue outside India,” the BCB added.
