Recognizing that it is ultimately responsible for the problem, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally stepped in to address the ongoing payment issues in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The board had to step in after a string of financial conflicts involving franchises, such as Durbar Rajshahi, whose players have complained over underpaid salaries and bounced checks.

It was disclosed on Tuesday, January 28, that the Durbar Rajshahi players of the BPL were having serious difficulties as a result of their check bounce troubles. Their players consequently skipped a practice since they were not paid. The incident started when Durbar Rajshahi's players refused to travel for a planned match against Rangpur Riders on January 26 and skipped a practice session because they were not paid. When it was discovered that some checks made out to players had bounced, the situation got worse.

BCB on BPL Payment Crisis:

Following the incident, BCB's perspective was shared with the media by Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, member secretary of the BPL governing council. He asserted that the board accepts responsibility for every situation and promises to find a quick solution. As a result, Rajshahi broke the BPL's requirement that a playing XI must include at least two foreign players by selecting an all-local team.

For the first time in the tournament's history, the BPL governing council permitted the match to go forward in spite of the violation. Najmul Hasan Papon, the secretary of the BCB and a member of the BPL governing council, said that the board needs to accept accountability.

Durbar Rajshahi was not the only place affected by the crisis. After national cricketer Parvez Hossain Emon claimed that he had not received any payment from the Chittagong Kings as of January 23, the team was also called into question. When team owner Sameer Quader Chowdhury made contentious remarks in response to Emon's worries, he said that the player needed to establish himself first and that money does not grow on trees. This caused the situation to worsen. Najmul underlined that all cricket players, whether or not they represent their country, should be treated with dignity and compensated on time.
