BCCI announces updated Indian Test squad for England tour; KKR player included

On Tuesday, June 17, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to include the Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Harshit Rana in the Indian Test squad for the England tour, scheduled to take place from June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy will begin on Friday, June 20, at Headingley, Leeds. Later, the action shifts to Edgbaston from July 2, Lord’s from July 10, Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23, and The Oval from July 31.

According to Cricbuzz, Rana has been travelling with Team India as a cover for a few pacers who have been carrying niggles. However, the BCCI officials and the team management didn’t reveal the names of the players who aren’t completely fit.

It’s worth noting that the Shubman Gill-led Indian Test squad has five top-class pacers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh. Interestingly, Rana was earlier part of the India A squad in two unofficial Tests vs England Lions, and he was also part of the intrasquad match against India.

On the other hand, Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the all-round pace options part of the Test squad. Rana will be a part of the Indian Test squad as the sixth pacer against England.

“The Men's Selection Committee has added Harshit Rana to India's squad for the first Test in Leeds against England,” BCCI stated in a release.

“Rana, who was a part of the India A squad has linked up with the team as India begin preparations for the first Test,” the statement read.
