BCCI announces updated squad for fifth Test; one major change made

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has picked the Tamil Nadu batter Narayan Jagadeesan for the fifth and final Test against England to replace the injured keeper-batter Rishabh Pant.

Notably, Pant fractured his foot during the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester after being hit on his toe while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. Later, scans revealed that he sustained a fracture, which resulted in ruling him out of the final Test.

"Rishabh Pant, who sustained a fracture to his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test of the series," the BCCI said in a press release.

"The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery. The Men's Selection Committee has named Narayan Jagadeesan as a replacement for Rishabh Pant for the fifth Test, which begins on July 31, 2025, at Kennington Oval in London,” the statement by the BCCI Secretary concluded.

Delving into the details of Jagadeesan's first-class record, the TN batter has played 52 games, amassing 3373 runs at an average of 47.5, with 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries. Interestingly, his highest individual score of 321 runs in an innings against Chandigarh in January 2024.

Moreover, it would be interesting to watch if the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah would be available for selection for the final Test. Also, Gill has confirmed that pacer Akash Deep is available for selection.
