The Uttarakhand High Court, on Tuesday (September 9), issued a notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on petitions seeking a probe into the alleged misuse of Rs 12 crore in government funds by the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). Notably, those funds were meant for organising tournaments.
Moreover, the petitioners also alleged that a massive amount of Rs 35 lakh was spent on bananas for players, as mentioned in the expenditure list. They cited the CAU’s audit report conducted by an external Chartered Accountant (CA).
Petitioners seek an investigation into CAU’s accounts for 2024-25 financial year
A single bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari was hearing multiple petitions filed by Dehradun resident Sanjay Rawat and others. They sought an investigation into the audit report of Cricket Association of Uttarakhand’s accounts for the 2024-25 financial year.
According to the audit report, CAU spent Rs 6.4 crore towards event management while a total of Rs 26.3 crore were spent on tournaments and trial expenses. The amount is up and above from Rs 22.3 crore in the previous financial year.
The petitioners, in their petition filed, have accused the association of embezzling crores of rupees in the name of food expenses. A huge amount of Rs 35 lakh have been written in the expenditure list as spent on bananas for players.
Cricket Association of Uttarakhand has also faced allegations of not providing the facilities promised to the players. The BCCI will now have to come up with a response to the notice and an inquiry is likely on the CAU over its expenses sooner or later. After taking cognisance of the allegations, the next hearing in the high court is scheduled for the upcoming Friday.
