On Thursday, September 25, the Ajit Agarkar-led All India Men's Selection Committee named India's Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against West Indies. This series will be a part of the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.
While the first Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, starting on October 2, the second Test will commence on October 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
It’s worth noting that India leveled their first WTC 2025-27 assignment 2-2 against England away from home. The upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies will be India’s second WTC 2025-27 cycle assignment.
Moving into the details, Shubman Gill will continue to lead the Test squad, while the spin bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be the vice-captain. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are predicted to open the batting, while Sai Sudharsan is likely to take up the No.3 slot.
Moreover, Gill will continue in his No.4 position. Unfortunately, Karun Nair has been axed after a poor run on the England tour. Additionally, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sarfaraz Khan didn’t manage to find a spot in the 15-man squad.
However, the stylish left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal has made a comeback to the Test squad after his impressive century against Australia A in the first unofficial Test. Nitish Kumar Reddy is the sole medium pace bowling all-rounder
The spin attack will have Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. While Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna form the pace battery, Dhruv Jurel will be India’s first-choice option as the keeper-batter, with Narayan Jagadeesan being his backup.
