BCCI official confirms IPL 2025 to resume from next week

In a piece of good news for the Indian fans, the Indian Premier League 2025 season is expected to resume very soon across four different venues, according to a BCCI official, after the IPL Governing Council’s meeting was concluded on Sunday.

It’s important to note that BCCI might change the venues for the remaining 12 league fixtures, while the venues for the playoffs are expected to remain the same. It’s worth noting that the IPL 2025 season got suspended during the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

"IPL will restart next week, in four venues. The venues will be shortlisted soon, and the venues of the qualifier, eliminator and finals are likely to remain the same. The tournament will resume with the match between RCB and LSG. The final venue could be changed as rain can affect the matches in Kolkata later, so this call will be taken accordingly,” a BCCI official told ANI.

Later, on Friday, May 9, the board decided to suspend the remainder of the IPL 2025 season for a week, and announced that the new schedule for the remainder of the league stage and playoffs would be announced later in a week’s time.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said in the official statement.

‘At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces and the people of our country. The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation, as they lead a resolute response to the recent terrorist attack and the unwarranted aggression by Pakistan’s armed forces,” the statement added.
