The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the third medical bulletin on the Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who has been discharged from the hospital, on Saturday, November 1. The statement disclosed that the batter will continue to be in Sydney and will return to India when he is deemed fit to fly.
Notably, Iyer injured his left rib cage area during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground while dismissing Alex Carey via a caught-out dismissal. Later, he left the field, and it was later disclosed from the medical scans that he suffered from internal bleeding. He was immediately rushed to the ICU to arrest the bleeding.
“Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25th October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same,” the BCCI official statement read.
“He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today,” the statement added.
“The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly,” the statement concluded.
According to various reports, Iyer would require at least 2 months to fully recover and return to the field, hitting the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to prove his fitness. Reportedly, he is all set to miss the South African ODI series at home.
