Bengaluru Stampede Update: Relief For RCB As No FIR Registered Against Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, a key member of the RCB team, has been the subject of a complaint at Bengaluru's Cubbon Park Police Station over the stampede that occurred at Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 and left 11 people dead and numerous others injured. However, according to police sources, no FIR has been filed as of yet.

Senior social activist H.M. Venkatesh filed a report; however, the police informed ANI that no formal complaint has been made against the RCB player and that they will handle the already filed complaint.

In his lawsuit, H.M. Venkatesh stated, as published by the Hindustan Times, "Virat Kohli of the Bangalore RCB team is the most prominent among those who participated in such gambling and incited people to gather in a specific place and caused this tragedy. Therefore, we request you to please make Virat Kohli and his team members accused in the FIR of this tragedy and take action.”

However, RCB has not been out of the news since Nikhil Sosale, the head of marketing, and three event organisers were placed under judicial detention by the Bengaluru Sessions Court. They were put on a 14-day remand beginning June 6 in order to hold them partially accountable. Sosale challenged his arrest at the High Court, arguing that it was unlawful and that no preliminary investigation had been conducted.

On June 3, a huge crowd gathered to welcome the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team after their Indian Premier League (IPL) victory — the team's first in 18 years — which led to a tragic stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium that left eleven people dead and 56 injured.

Citing alleged "irresponsibility" and "carelessness," Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the state's DGP and IGP to detain RCB representatives, event managers, and KSCA officials.

ACP Balakrishna, DCP (Central) Shekhar HT, Additional Commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK were among the senior personnel suspended by the Karnataka police following the stampede.
