Champions Trophy 2025: ENG Unveils Squad with Jos Buttler as Captain

The newest news is that England has announced their team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Jos Buttler, a batsman and wicketkeeper, has been named the team's captain for the major tournament. England Team management declared on Sunday that Test captain Ben Stokes would not be participating in the Champions Trophy one-day international event in Pakistan next year or the ensuing white-ball tour of India. The selection panel's chosen 15-man side will also play the three ODIs in India in February 2025, a few weeks before the eight-team competition. 

After hurting his hamstring during England's loss to New Zealand in the third Test at Hamilton earlier this month, 33-year-old star all-rounder Ben Stokes was not taken into consideration. After suffering a left hamstring injury during the most recent third Test match against New Zealand he is out of the squad. On Sunday, December 22, a media release was released by the England Cricket Board (ECB) confirming Stokes' unavailability.

England drops Ben Stokes:

England and Wales Cricket Board statement revealed, "Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes was not considered for selection as he continues to be assessed following a left hamstring injury sustained." The English team will depart for the white-ball trip against India on January 17 and arrive four days before the opening of the five Twenty20 Internationals, the statement also announced. Stokes did not bat in the game's second innings as England lost by 423 runs, although his team still prevailed 2-1 in the three-match series.

Due to hamstring problems, he previously missed the first Test in Pakistan and the home series against Sri Lanka this year. Before their prestigious 2025–26 Ashes tour of Australia, England will play a five-match Test series at home against India beginning in June. As a result, team management has chosen not to take a chance on inspirational red-ball captain Stokes.
