In a touching moment, Virat Kohli touched Mohammed Shami's mother's feet during India's victory against New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. In the final on Sunday, March 9, India defeated Mitchell Santner's New Zealand by four wickets to win the eight-team competition. The Indian players started celebrating on the pitch with their families following the historic victory.

Kohli met Shami's family during the post-match festivities and asked the seamer's mother for blessings. He also posed with Shami's family for a photo. Throughout his career, the former captain of India has been criticised for his combative demeanour on multiple occasions.

Nonetheless, his regard for Shami's mother demonstrates his conservative values. As he took in the cheers of the supporters who had gathered to watch the summit match in Dubai, Kohli was seen grinning broadly. Before posing for a photo with Shami and his family, Kohli is seen honouring Shami's mother while wearing his white winner's jacket. The two seasoned internationals, who have been important members of the team for a number of years, played a significant role in India's campaign. This particular instance demonstrated the closeness of the two teammates.

Additionally, cameras saw Kohli grinning as he spoke with Shami and his family, celebrating the Indian seam bowler's first ICC trophy victory. In addition to Shami's family, a number of players brought their own families to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to watch India win their first ODI trophy since 2013 and cap their excellent tournament campaign by defeating New Zealand by four wickets.

Last year, India won the T20 World Cup, but Mohammed Shami missed the match due to an injury. In five games of the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 34-year-old took nine wickets at an economy rate of 5.68 and an average of 25.88. He scored a five-for in the opening game of the season against Bangladesh, which was his finest showing. He took three wickets while bowling brilliantly against Australia in the semi-finals. After chasing down a 252-run mark in 49 overs thanks to a scorching half-century from captain Rohit Sharma, India won the final by four wickets.
