actual reason behind dropping Yashasvi Jaiswal from the main squad

Indian opening batter Yashavi Jaiswal, who was initially included in the ICC Champions Trophy squad, has now been axed from the main 15-man squad as mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy took his spot in the squad.

Though the BCCI has confirmed this change, a lot of fans didn’t actually get the main reason behind this move. Notably, Jaiswal has 1526 runs from 33 List A games at an average of 52.62. Though he did exceptionally well in Tests and T20s, he couldn’t achieve similar success in ODIs.

Nevertheless, the actual reason behind Jaiswal’s axing was to have the principle opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the starting XI. Moreover, former Indian cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra stated that Jaiswal’s services might not be required in the Indian ODI team as of now.

“The batting order is looking set. Rohit has started scoring runs. Shubman Gill is our vice-captain, and he is in good form. Virat Kohli will eventually return to form. Even if he doesn’t, god forbid, India are not going to drop him. Shreyas Iyer is at No. 4. At No. 5, whether it’s KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, or Axar Patel, the slot is settled. One of the two—Rahul and Pant—will have to be left out. And then you have an extra batter,” Chopra told on his YouTube channel.

“You might not require Yashasvi Jaiswal. That’s a possibility. You wanted to maintain a left-right, left-right combination in the batting order. Now, you won’t be able to do it. You have played your hand, and that has backfired,” he added.
