After missing out on hosting a lot of important games, the Karnataka State Government has given clearance to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to host the IPL and international matches.
On Saturday, January 17, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) disclosed the news via its official media release, stating that the green signal has come from the state government to host IPL and international matches at the venue.
"We are pleased to inform you that the Home Department, Government of Karnataka, has granted permission to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to host international and IPL matches at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru,” read the statement from KSCA.
"The permission is subject to compliance with specific terms and conditions prescribed by the Government and the concerned Authorities,” the statement read.
Earlier, there were reports that the RCB franchise was looking for a new home venue. However, with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 schedule already revealed, the iconic venue is all set to open its gates for the forthcoming IPL 2026 season for the home franchise.
"KSCA is confident of fulfilling all the stipulated conditions. The Association has already presented a detailed compliance roadmap before the Expert Review Committee and remains fully committed to implementing all safety, security, and crowd-management measures in letter and spirit," the KSCA statement concluded.
It’s worth noting that the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium hasn’t hosted a single match since the tragic stampede last year that resulted in 11 people losing their lives and around 50 others being injured during an event, which was held to celebrate RCB’s first IPL title triumph.
