Chris Gayle, a former cricket player for the West Indies and widely regarded as “The Universe Boss”, has advocated for Sarfaraz Khan to be included in the Indian Test team and asserted that his weight is not a barrier to his selection.
Despite being a member of the A team, the Mumbai batter was initially left out of India's squad for the IND vs. ENG series. He has since been left out of the squad, possibly due to a quadriceps injury. Sarfaraz must be a surefire addition to the Test team considering his calibre, according to Gayle.
The way Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and national selectors are handling the gifted batter Sarfaraz Khan has not really satisfied the renowned West Indies batsman. Gayle has demanded that Sarfaraz Khan's talent and numbers be given fair consideration. His last appearance for India came in November 2024, when they were humiliated by New Zealand in their home Test series.
Sarfaraz Khan is his favourite Indian player, according to Gayle, and he ought to be on the Indian Test team. He brought up the fact that the right-handed hitter was left out of the recent tour despite having scored a century against England in India.
In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra that was posted on YouTube on Sunday, September 7, Gayle praised Sarfaraz as his favourite Indian player and supported him for a spot in the Test team.
The 45-year-old said, "I mean, he should be in the Test side. He should be in the Test squad at least, you know. Scored a century against England at home, not in the squad. I saw a post a couple of days ago. He lost weight. The weight wasn’t even, nothing was wrong with his weight or anything. He’s just fine. He was still scoring runs."
“The man scored triple centuries in first-class cricket. So if they’re using that against him, that’s sad, you know. They should never use that against him. That youngster should have been a part of the squad 100%. I mean, India have so much talent, man, but give the man a run,” he added.
