His replacement for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh will be announced in due course."

In the current World Test Championship cycle, South Africa has six Tests remaining. The Proteas must win five of the six matches, according to math calculations, in order to have a chance to play in the tournament final at Lord's, which is scheduled to start on June 11 of the following year.

Burger debuted for his country on December 14, 2023, in a Twenty20 international match against India. During the same tour, he also made his debut in the ODI and Test formats against the same opponents. The 29-year-old has taken 21 wickets in three Test matches, five ODIs, and two T20Is thus far. After the T20I series ended in a 1-1 draw, South Africa is now leading the ODI series against Ireland by a score of 1-0.
