CSK and Ravi Ashwin likely to part ways ahead of IPL 2026 season

Former Indian off-spinner and analyst Ravi Ashwin is likely to part ways with the Chennai Super Kings franchise, according to the latest reports published on the reputed news and media portal, Cricbuzz.

Ashwin, who played nine innings in IPL 2025, could scalp only seven wickets with the best bowling figures of 2/41, while his economy was at 9.12. Notably, the actual reason behind the separation remains unclear.

However, Ashwin is believed to have made up his mind and has conveyed the news to the franchise officials. It’s important to note that the franchise officials, owners, Ruturaj Gaikwad and MS Dhoni have been meeting in Chennai over the past few days to lay out a proper plan for the forthcoming season.

Speaking about Ashwin's IPL record, he has played a total of 221 games, scalping 187 wickets at an average of 30.22 with the best bowling figures of 4/22 and an economy of 7.2. However, the past two seasons didn't go down well for Ashwin.

While he represented the Super Kings franchise from IPL 2009 to IPL 2015 seasons, he was later roped in by RPS in IPL 2016. Subsequently, he was drafted into the Punjab Kings team in the IPL 2018 and 2019 seasons.

While he represented the Delhi Capitals' franchise in IPL 2020 and 2021 seasons, he was roped in by the Rajasthan Royals franchise for IPL 2022, 2023, and 2024 seasons before making his comeback home at CSK in IPL 2025 at a whopping price of INR 9.75 crore.

Moreover, the report also mentioned that Sanju Samson has requested the Royals’ franchise to let him go ahead of the auction. There were multiple reports indicating Samson’s move to a different franchise in IPL 2026.
