The Chennai Super Kings have declared that they are finally prepared to enter women's cricket after four complete seasons in the Women's Premier League. With women's cricket as its top objective, CSK, one of the most successful teams in the Indian cricket scene, will try to increase its presence in the upcoming years.

In recent years, women's cricket in India has grown significantly. There has been a lot of interest since the WPL's launch in 2023 and India's historic Women's ODI World Cup victory in 2025. A new generation of cricket players is being inspired by players like Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur, who have become household names. The WPL has seen a surge in viewership, surpassing prominent international sports tournaments like the English Premier League in India and the UEFA Champions League.

Big Breaking CSK in WPL:

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated at the Invest in Tamil Nadu summit that the team's initial expansion goal is women's cricket. He emphasised that CSK is actively preparing to invest in the women's game in the upcoming years, even though he underlined that the team will not join the WPL right away. When asked about the franchise's long-term goals, Viswanathan responded, “Not immediately, but certainly in the coming years, CSK will expand its footprint. Our first target will be women’s cricket. We may also go into other sports over time.”

CSK is currently one of the IPL teams without a women's team. Five teams from Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh presently compete in the WPL. Prominent Indian Premier League teams like Chennai, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad have not yet joined the women's division.

The 2026 Women's Premier League season is almost over. On February 5, the competition's final will take place. Watch this space for more cricket news and updates.
